Champagne and Stars / La Poza Hill and Beach Walk
We start this evening of sensory delights enjoying magnificent views of the ocean and freshwater lagoon from our hillside perch. While savoring a glass or two of champagne we take in the beauty of a Baja sunset – and watch for the green flash as the sun slips under the horizon. Sunset is one of the most active times in the lagoon for its bird inhabitants, so we’ll see a tremendous amount of aviary activity. Our naturalist guide will point out species unique to the area and provide interesting details on their lives and habits.
Once darkness falls our guide illustrates the night sky, outlining the constellations and bringing their epic stories to life – not only with the Greek mythologies, but Aztec, and Mayan mythologies as well. You’ll gain a whole new perspective on the evening sky! You’ll also get a close view of the stars and planets through our high-powered telescope. It is a delightful way to begin a Todos Santos evening.
La Poza Hill and Beach Walk
For those who would like to explore the local scenery prior to settling in for Champagne and Stars we offer the beautiful La Poza Hill and Beach Walk. This is an absolutely lovely, 90-minute walk that shows the best of what Baja has to offer. We start off in the rolling hills of the desert landscape, taking in terrific views of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains to the east, the distinct formation of Punta Lobos to the south, and the dramatic sweep of the beach meeting the ocean to the west. In addition to the wide range of cactus and desert plants, we often see jackrabbits, chipmunks, roadrunners, quails, owls, hawks, hummingbirds, orioles, gnatcatchers, flycatchers and doves on this walk – and virtually no humans! We then wind down to the beautiful, pristine beach, which is virtually empty on most days. In January, February and March there are often whales swimming, breaching and spy-hopping just a few yards off the shore. On the final leg of the walk we skirt along the freshwater lagoon which features a fantastic array of bird life including pelicans, herons, egrets, gulls, frigatebirds, ibis, ducks, cormorants, sandpipers, stilts and many, many more.
